IPA 25

Pulsar IPA 25 is a modern dynamics processor that expands on the sound and behavior of classic VCA compressors. It combines multiple circuit topologies, a complete sidechain control section, and an integrated clipper/limiter into a single, efficient plugin for mixing and mastering.

Key features:

Multiple Compression Circuits

IPA 25 offers four fully modeled gainreduction topologies, allowing instant changes in harmonic behavior without altering the detector response:

•Clean VCA – Transparent envelope control for detailed and accurate dynamics.
•Original VCA – Punchy and precise with smooth rounding at high levels.
•V-Mu – Tube-inspired saturation with natural low-mid bloom.
•N-Diode – Asymmetrical clipping that enhances midrange presence.

Each mode shapes harmonics at the gain-reduction stage, providing tonal variety without external saturation tools.

Complete Sidechain Control

IPA 25 treats the detector path as a creative element rather than a fixed circuit.

•Four-band visual sidechain EQ for precise frequency-dependent control.
•Punch Selector – Switch between Norm, Mid, or Loud detection focus.
•Stereo Linking – Adjust how channels share gain reduction across sustained and transient material.
•External Sidechain – Trigger compression from any source for ducking or rhythmic effects.

Adaptive Clipper / Limiter

A built-in peak-control module adds level and density without distortion.

•Limiter applies dynamic control only to overshoots, avoiding flattened transients.
•Clipper trims peaks transparently to add controlled harmonic weight.
•Modules can be positioned pre- or post-compression to fit any workflow.

Envelope and Timing Options

•Look-Ahead / Look-Behind control allows either pre-emptive or delayed response to transients.
•Feed-Forward / Feedback modes subtly change how harmonics and compression interact.
•Zero-latency tracking and high-quality oversampling modes adapt to any production stage.

Design and Workflow

IPA 25 models the RMS detection, ratio-dependent knees, and program-dependent release behavior of the best-known analog VCA compressors, extending them with precise digital control.

•Real-time visual displays show compression, spectrum, and detector behavior.
•Circuit modeling is optimized for low CPU usage, maintaining efficiency in large sessions.
•Fully resizable interface with clear signal-flow overview.

Typical Applications

•Mix Bus: Add consistent glue with control over stereo width and transients.
•Drums: Shape punch and sustain while maintaining impact.
•Vocals and Instruments: Control dynamics with character or transparency.
•Mastering: Apply precision peak control and final tone shaping.
