Overloud Jensen Vintage Alnico P12Q IR Library for TH-U SuperCabinet (Download) Overview
The Jensen Vintage Alnico P12Q IR Library for TH-U SuperCabinet from Overloud is a SuperCabinet IR library that captures the warm, well-balanced tones of the vintage Jensen P12Q Alnico speaker in 1×12 and 2×12 open-back cabinet configurations captured by 19 microphones for an impressive 1216 total impulse responses. A speaker noted for its versatile, all-arounder qualities and midrange bite, this IR library is a great choice for a wide range of music styles, from country and jazz to rock and blues.
The 19 mics were used to record in four different horizontal positions, two distances, and two angles for a total of 16 IRs each. When the tone may seem too bright for modern uses, Overloud includes a convenient remastered version of each IR, effectively doubling the number of available IRs, which utilize finely tuned top-end response for increased warmth in more contemporary-style settings. Designed exclusively for the SuperCabinet IR processor, a program which makes it easy to blend and create custom cabinet tones and export IRs in WAV format for use in external IR loaders and modelers, the Jensen Vintage Alnico P12Q IR Library is an ideal choice for those seeking warm vintage tone in a versatile and affordable package.
- Graphically browse the IRs in the library
- Blend them together
- Craft new cabinet tones with the unique multiband mode
- Use the IR in the software
- Export the IRs in WAV-file format, compatible with software IR loaders and all the major hardware modelers
- 1×12″ open-back cabinet
- 2×12″ open-back cabinet
This setup produced a total of 1216 IRs, developed in conjunction with a Jensen Speakers product specialist, in order to recreate the most authentic playing experience, as if you were playing an original speaker.
The P12Q is a lower power sibling to the P12N, with a smaller voice coil and a vintage steel basket, nicknamed the hot dog or sausage basket, because of the shape of the openings in its frame. Warm and balanced sounding with a nice bite in the upper midrange, it is a very interesting all-rounder for many different applications, from country and jazz tones to more aggressive rock and roll and blues application. Typically found in holy-grail amps such as the vintage Tweed Deluxe and other similar models, as well as the Ampeg Jet, Gibson GA-20, and many more. The capture shows its superb tonal qualities in each of the 16 positions of Overloud’s 19-microphone array.
In the modern world, especially with high-gain tones that are naturally very rich in harmonic overtones, all this energy in the treble range may occasionally turn into an overly bright, aggressive tone. To further expand the possible applications of these historic speakers, Overloud decided to offer all the Vintage Jensen IRs along with a remastered option, where the top-end response is finely tuned to be warmer and less prominent to make it more suitable for contemporary higher-gain applications. This creates a sort of virtually aged tone that offers a whole new range of sounds for every application. All of the IRs in the library are effectively doubled by the remastered version, opening up new possibilities to the player beyond the original hardware.

Every microphone has been moved to four different horizontal position (cap, cap edge, cone, and cone edge), two distances and two angles, for a total of 16 IRs each. All the measurements have been repeated for each cabinet in the library, and all IRs have been phase aligned, so they can be blended without phase cancellation.
