Description

Guitarists and music producers in search of iconic modulation for their productions should check out the Overloud Gem MODULA, a set of three plug-ins that faithfully emulate the Roland Dimension D, Arp Solina String Ensemble Chorus, and the Yamaha SPX90 Symphonic effect. The emulations are spot on and extend the original tone capabilities by adding many features, which are not available on the analog units.

Dual mode provides independent control over the left and right signals, allowing you to create wide stereo effects, while the input stage features a saturation control. You can customize LFO shapes, and parameters can be controlled by envelopes. All modulation rates can be synced to BPM. The Gem MODULA is Mac and Windows compatible and works with most DAWs using AU, AAX64, or VST plug-in formats, or you can use it as a standalone application.

Three Emulations in One Plug-In

Dimension

  • The Dimension unit offers a very soft and organic modulation. It was the go-to unit for vocals in the ’80s and ’90s; but, it can also be used on a full mix to increase the space perception without adding reverb. Its input section has a very musical harmonic generation when pushed into saturation.

Ensemble

  • The Ensemble circuit was included in a line of strings machines, so it is particularly suited for synth and pad sounds. It can create huge stereo depth on strings and soundscapes as well.

Symphonic

  • The Symphonic unit is the classic digital chorus of the ’90s. It has a 3-voice modulation scheme with sine-wave LFOs for heavy modulation. It was the Zakk Wylde and Mike Stern chorus, but it has been heavily used on vocals and synths as well.

Additional Features Beyond the Original

  • Input Saturation: You can push into saturation on the input stage of the units to drive their supermusical harmonic generation.
  • Built-In EQ: With the built-in parametric EQ, you can sculpt the tone of the wet signal without the need of complex external routing.
  • Stereo-Width Control: You can change the amount of stereo width from mono to double the original width.
