It was created by Kevin Garry, Ph.D. a University of Colorado-Boulder professor and award-winning guitarist, and includes over 170 lessons that go over music theory, rhythm and lead guitar technique, scales, tablature, standard notation, and more. The lessons also come with other interactive features such as an animated fretboard and a Note and Finger Tracker tool to display the melody notes you play in real time in standard notation and on the fretboard. A directory of guitar scales is also available, including major, minor, blues, and pentatonic scales with recordings and scale fingerings.This software will provide interactive feedback as you play so you can see when you play the correct notes in order to better learn how to play. Over 40 songs are bundled in this version with hits from musicians such as Eric Clapton, Jimi Hendrix, Jeff Beck, Jerry Garcia, Steve Miller, and more. Videos are available with split-screen view and close-ups of both hands and the songs and lessons are presented as audio and variable-speed MIDI tracks where selections can be looped, slowed, or sped up. Notation can be displayed as either tablature or notation in order to suit your comfort level and the music and lyrics are tracked and highlighted for easy viewing. Other tools include an automatic tuner, a chord dictionary, recorder, and metronome.

Introduction

Review of basics, including tablature, music notation, and notes on the fretboard.

I. Melodic Guitar – Left-Hand Techniques

Hammer-ons, pull-offs, triplet slurs, trills, vibrato, slides, and bends introduces in reffs and songs such as “Crawdad Hole,” “Jesu,” “Largo,” “Scarborough Fair,” “House of the Rising Sun” and 12-bar blues solo.

II. Rhythm Guitar – Barre Chords

E-shape and A-shape barre chords, chord progressions, interactive chord charts for all positions, barre chord excerpts for “Midnight Special,” “Watchtower,” and “Touch of Grey,” chord charts, and symbols.

III. Strumming Styles – Folk, Country, Blues & Rock

Bass-strum techniques, shuffle rhythm, palm muting, songs including “All Along the Watchtower,” “Drive On,” “Touch of Grey,” “Jet Airliner,” “I’m Your Captain,” and “Sloop John B.”

IV. Using Scales and Building Chords
