Description

The Jensen Vintage Ceramic C12R IR Library for TH-U SuperCabinet from Overloud is a SuperCabinet IR library that captures the smooth tones of the vintage Jensen C12R ceramic speaker in 1×12 and 2×12 open-back cabinet configurations captured by 19 microphones in 16 positions for an impressive 1216 total impulse responses. Typically used in low-powered studio or practice amps, this IR library is a great choice for sparkling clear sounding tone.

The 19 mics were used to record in four different horizontal positions, two distances, and two angles, for a total of 16 IRs each. For situations when the tone is too bright for modern uses, Overloud includes a convenient remastered version of each IR, which have a finely tuned top-end response for increased warmth in more contemporary-style settings, effectively doubling the number of available IRs. Designed exclusively for the SuperCabinet IR processor, a program which makes it easy to blend and create custom cabinet tones and export IRs in WAV format for use in external IR loaders and modelers, the Jensen Vintage Ceramic C12R IR Library is an ideal choice for those seeking warm lows and mids, smooth, bright highs, and crunchy overdrive in a versatile and affordable package.

Note:

This IR library requires that you own TH-U SuperCabinet.
Made for The SuperCabinet
The Jensen Vintage Ceramic C12R IR library is designed exclusively for use with the TH-U SuperCabinet program, which can either be used as a standalone IR library or with the TH-U plug-in program. SuperCabinet allows you to:

  • Graphically browse the IRs in the library
  • Blend them together
  • Craft new cabinet tones with the unique multiband mode
  • Use the IR in the software
  • Export the IRs in WAV file format, compatible with software IR loaders and all the major hardware modelers
Clear, Bright, and Warm Tone
This is a systematic capture of a Jensen Vintage Ceramic C12R speaker, from the Vintage Series, installed in two different enclosures:

  • 1×12″ open-back cabinet
  • 2×12″ open-back cabinet

This process resulted in a total of 1216 IRs, developed in conjunction with a Jensen Speakers product specialist, in order to recreate the most authentic playing experience, as if you were playing an original speaker.

Typically used in the vintage lower powered 12” amps for studio or practice, the C12R is a clear sounding, sparkling speaker, very sensitive to the character of the attached amplifier. When paired with a stout, rich, and warm electronic design it can do wonders. Ampeg Jets and Reverberockets are just some of the most revered amps that carried C12R as their factory choice. Installed in a vintage correct selection of cabinets, the C12R shines in each of the 19 microphones and 16 positions captured.

Includes Original and Remastered Versions
This library also includes the remastered version of all the IRs. The vintage Jensen speakers were designed mainly for clean tones. The maximum overdrive achievable back in those days was generated by the amplifier’s natural clipping and compression and by some of the earlier fuzz pedals. Those speakers were voiced for sparkly, shimmering treble response, with a remarkable amount of energy well over 6 kHz, to be coupled with the warm sounding circuits and the thin, resonant cabinets of the era. The IRs of the Vintage Jensen Speakers behave exactly as expected: bright, clear, and detailed.

In the modern world, especially with high-gain tones that are naturally very rich in harmonic overtones, all this energy in the treble range may occasionally turn in an overly bright, aggressive tone. To further expand the possible applications of these historic speakers, Overloud decided to offer all of the Vintage Jensen IRs with a remastered option, where the top-end response is finely tuned to be warmer and less prominent to make it more suitable for contemporary higher-gain applications. This creates a sort of virtually aged tone that offers a whole new range of sounds for every application. All the IRs in the library are effectively doubled by the remastered version, opening up new possibilities to the player beyond the original hardware.
