Description

Achieve smooth and supple tones while enjoying a realistic playing feel with the Overloud CHP Bogie Alone 2×12 AlnRuby, an impulse response (IR) library made for TH-U SuperCabinet (available separately). Containing over 300 IRs, this library captures Celestion Alnico Ruby speakers loaded in an open-back Mesa Boogie Lonestar 2×12″ cabinet, recorded with 11 microphones and two preamps. Thanks to the use of a motorized mic stand, precision and consistency were maintained throughout the execution of eight to 16 positions per microphone.

Detailed Source Capture
Bogie Alone 2×12 AlnRuby is the Choptones SuperCabinet IR library created by capturing a Mesa Boogie Lonestar 2×12″ cabinet loaded with Celestion Alnico Ruby speakers. It is an extensive and systematic capture created with 11 microphones, eight to 16 positions per microphone, and multiple mic preamps, for more than 300 IRs globally. Captures are performed with a motorized mic stand in order to have consistent measurements across libraries.
The Cab and Speaker
A perfect match for Lonestar amps, the cabinet features a straight front, open back, and marine-grade Baltic birch plywood construction. Offering classic alnico tone with mellow highs and creamy midrange, the 35W speaker is ideal for use with low- and mid-powered amps.
Works in SuperCabinet
The library is created for the TH-U SuperCabinet, which allows users to:

  • Graphically browse the IRs in the library
  • Blend IRs together
  • Craft new cabinet tones with the multiband mode
  • Use the IR in the software
  • Export the IRs in WAV format, compatible with software IR loaders and all major hardware modelers
Gear and Session Details
11 microphones were used during the capturing session.

  • AKG C414
  • Audio-Technica 2035

Every microphone was moved to four different horizontal positions (cap, cap edge, cone, and cone edge) and two distances, for a total of eight IRs each. For some microphones, the set of eight measurements was repeated with the microphone off axis (45°). The entire measurement set was repeated twice with two different mic preamps—a Neve 1073 and a German preamp.
